Re-activating used iPhone 3G with iPhone 2G AT&T Pay and Go SIM
I just purchased a "New" 16GB iPhone 3G off eBay about a week ago. As usual when purchasing an iPhone like this, it did not ship with its original SIM. The phone is currently running firmware 2.2. Before this, I had been using an iPhone 2G on "Pay and Go". I still want to continue this practice but have some questions.
***Yes I know next week AT&T will officially begin offering iPhone 3G on Pay and Go, I still saved over a $100 on my purchase as compared to what AT&T will sell the 16GB for.***
So, I popped the iPhone 2G AT&T "PAYG" SIM into the iPhone 3G, and voila! Worked like a charm as expected, all features work great.
So before I get too excited with my 3G, will I be able to Restore?
1. Can I connect to iTunes 8.02 and perform the 2.2 restore and carrier update, then re-activate the phone with my original iPhone 2G PAYG SIM? Don't need to restore, but I would like to know I can.
The 3G was activated before I purchased it by the original owner, just worried a SIM mismatch may occur. This said, I have heard SIM/IMEI marriage is no longer a worry on 3G? Can anyone confirm?
The real worry I have is I don't want to attempt re-activation right now only to render my phone a brick. I suppose I could just Jailbreak and activate with PWNAGE at worst case.
Anyone who has done this running the same setup, please let me know.
Kindest thanks in advance.

Bumping as a plea.
Someone has bound to have done this, can someone provide feedback?
Thanks much all.
I had a 2G iphone and got AT&T USA PAYG and everything worked fine (inlc $20/mo unlimited data).
Last summer I got a 3G iphone from ebay and have been using exact same SIM in that ever since. Have updated firmwares as we go along using PwnTool and restored etc. Everything with no issues incl activation etc.
You should have no issues using the SIM in the new phone. I have the $20 Media Net service and get unlimited 3G data too.
No worries. Hope this helps.
