Quick General Questions about going from 2g -> 3g
I'm using a 2g iphone right now, and am interested in moving to 3g. I have T-mobile, and am wondering if the 3g is unlockable for it. I remember hearing somewhere else that T-mobile is a dead fish for the 3g. Is this true?
Also, does the 3g still support T-mobile's 5.99 data plan?
Are third party apps and installer still usable for it?
Does the GPS require any sort of payment?
Sorry for n00b questions. It's just that I'm being offered a 3g for a great price now, and don't have much time to do further research before the offer is gone.
thanks.

NO 3G wont work with Tmobile
> I have T-mobile, and am wondering if the 3g is unlockable for it.
NO
3G iPhone cannot be unlocked
> I remember hearing somewhere else that T-mobile is a dead fish for the 3g. Is this true?
true, Tmobile USA will NOT work with 3G frequency iPhone uses
Tmobile Europe DOES work with 3G iPhone
> Also, does the 3g still support T-mobile's 5.99 data plan?
NO
It costs $80 a month from ATT, to get the data and minutes I get from Tmobile for $55. I save $25 every month that I keep using my 2G iPhone.
> Are third party apps and installer still usable for it?
some no, some yes
> Does the GPS require any sort of payment?
NO
there is currently no navigation software for iPhone
but it usually costs $10 a month for a phone carrier to deliver turn my turn directions to a GPS capable phone, so ATT may at some point in the future, attempt to sell 3G customers a Navigation add on, with a monthly ongoing fee.
WAIT until iPhone 3G can be unlocked, or pay ATT extra for a 3G feature with very little access in USA, and NO gps based navigation software for turn by turn directions.. though, rumor has it there is something coming from Tom Tom.. I dont know the cost
