Default Quick disable 3G or smart 3G?

    Hi,

Is there anyway to make the iPhone only enable 3G for Data?

I want to use GSM for calls as I get better reception for GSM calls - but would want 3G to switch on when I am using Safari or Emails, YouTube, Maps etc.

Is there any application currently available that offers this kind of smart managmenet?

    Thanks.

Well, you can Manually toggle 3G ON and OFF by going to Settings --> General --> Network. You will find the Enable 3G option there.

have you had any problems switching from 2G to 3G. Usually, when i turn 3G off, it switches quickly over to 2G, but for the opposite, my phone usually displays "no service" until I try to make a call, and then it works. The no service icon doesnt go away unless I try making a call...

Has this happened to anybody else? Btw, I have a jailbroken 2.0.1...

Services.app in Cydia does quicker switching, ~4seconds with no modem reset iirc

So if I install services.app or bossprefs from cydia, it will switch from 3G to 2G and vice versa quickly? Does this also help other apps open quickly, such as settings or contacts?

i installed bossprefs but that wasn't an improvement either. I dont get 3G in my house, so the conversion process isnt as smooth but its fine everywhere else.
