Question [Question] [Solved] Jailbreaking with no sim

I have a 3g iphone but do not have the original sim card.

The phone has never been jailbroken or unlocked - it originally came with a TurboSim (which did work with a Vodafone sim) but it's now broken.

If I put a sim from a fully legal 3g phone in it and plug it into itunes it tells me an invalid sim is inserted and won't let me access the iphone gui.

All this means I can't access the restore screen in itunes to start the jailbreak process and then go on to unlock it.

    Any bright ideas..?

    TIA

    Default Use your new sim

Use the sim you want to use to do the upgrades and unlocking

1st RESTORE in itunes to 2.2
When finished run quickpwn 2.2 follow the on screen instructions.
When done run Cydia and then go to manage and add in sources http://apt9.yellowsn0w.com

    2 guides are

    Unlock
    http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=2538

When finished if you do not get a signal just eject the sim enough to get the sim error message and the reinsert might have to do a couple of times

    Hope that helps

s2tephen - thanks for the response but the crux of the problem is that with the sim I want to use itunes won't let me access the iphone gui... So I'm not able to perform a restore to 2.2 in the first instance..?

    Default Seems Strange

    Hi
Seems strange because i brought the 2 phones i had on o2 payg
I removed the o2 sims and replaced them with orange ones then did the restore in itunes and then ran quickpwn and installed yellowsn0w all with the orange sims in the phone. The only problem I came across was when all was finished was getting the signal and got it as explained earlier. if you have'nt got a sim to put in it try a payg o2 sim only a couple of pounds to by or maybe you know someone on o2 who's sim you could try. if your not in uk a sim from own country.

Get the iPhone into DFU mode. When in this mode the iPhone screen is black.
    1. Connect the iPhone and your Mac/PC
    2. Shut down iTunes
    3. Hold Power/Sleep until the red slider shows up, slide to shut the iPhone down. If this aint work hold Power/Sleep and Home until the iPhone shuts down.
    3. Hold Start/Sleep and Home for 10 seconds (I count like 100, 200, 300, ..)
    4. Let go of Start/Sleep but keep holding Home until...
    5. ... iTunes starts up and finds an iPhone in restore/recovery mode. The iPhone screen is black.

then no matter what sim is inserted as itunes will recognize iphone as in DFU mode and will prompt to restore it.

credits: info on how to get in DFU mode taken from volkpost post.

    Genius.

Stuck it in DFU mode, restored to genuine 2.2. Put it back in DFU mode and restored it to jailbreak 2.2 (downloaded from link on iClarified) then followed jailbreak instructions and unlock instructions (again all on iClarified.com) had a few stumbling blocks on the way but now it's all sorted.

Bingo! Thanks xbigvietx for the pointer!

    Hello
I am a newbie, after I read the correspondense below, I have a question : Beside the issue below, normally do we need to have the sim card to be inserted on the iphone during the jailbreaking process ? I am asking this, because I have 3g iphone with 2.2 firmware and in lock condition.

    Thanks
    Santoso
