    Default [Question] iPhone 3g Unlocking

Hi guys, i'm an iPhone n00b and was just wondering one thing. I understand that the yellowsn0w unlock solution is coming new years. So my question is would this enable me to use my 3UK sim in an unlocked iPhone 3g, or would I still have to use a Turbosim, VirginSim etc?!

Thanks and any helpful comments are fully appreciated!

Check the requirements here. If you're OK, say good bye to the *sim solutions

If your iPhone is jailbroken and running a Baseband version equal to or lower than 2.11.07, then you're fine: You can use your 3UK sim in the unlocked iPhone 3g.

If you have updated your iPhone 3G to 2.2, the unlock will not work, but if it is on firmware 2.1 or lower (therefore baseband 02.11.07 or lower) you will be able to unlock it, and use your 3G SIM

    Edit:

@bluewave.........you can update to 2.2fw using custom firmwire and not update your baseband and still use the unlock. so you are partially wrong.

@raj..........duck9000 is correct.just keep it in 2.1 and dont do anything untill dev team tells you. just b a bit more patient.

Default iPhone 3G noob question, jailbreaking/unlocking

Hi Guys, i've tried searching for an answer to my problem but I have been unable to find a specific answer.

Basically I have just got an iPhone 3G and it's locked to o2-uk. I am using a rebel-sim as I am on 3UK and this is working fine. I want to jailbreak my iPhone and also unlock it via yellowsn0w whenever that is going to be released.

    I am running firmware 2.1 (5F136) and baseband 02.11.07.

My question is if I jailbreak it with QuickPwn will i be unable to unlock it via yellowsn0w, because on the dev-team blog it states

"GOLDEN RULE: If you have a 3G iPhone and want potential soft unlock in the near future do NOT use QuickPwn, and do not use the official ipsw or the iTunes update process without using PwnageTool."

so why does it say DO NOT use quickpwn if you want a potential soft unlock in the future?

Quickpwn is for mac users. for windows, it is winpwn. your baseband version is ok for unlocking. so i will suggest you to wait till dev team releases yellosnow.it will probably come with instructions to jailbreak. for my 3G, i have the same settings as yours.and i havent yet jailbroken yet.just waiting for more direction from dev team.

To jailbreak, you have to use a custom ipsw which will not upgrade your baseband. i shall strongly recommend you to wait till the yellowsnow and instructions come out.its just one more day.
