Q: Any way to tell if 3G is really factory unlocked ?
Hi all, I upgraded from a 2G (us version) to a 3G-phone, mainly because of the GPS. It is a 3G from Poland (ERA), and the seller claimed that it is/was factory unlocked. Now ERA did sell unlocked phones starting somewhen this year, before, they were also sim-locked. Seller is not reachable anymore, that is doesn't react on questions.
It runs fine on OS3.0. Before I upgrade to 3.1, I'd like to somehow check whether it is a factory unlocked version or was maybe "ultrasnowed". For the later, I found no remains/evidence on the phone.
One way to test would probably to just do the update....and see what happens. That leaves a small chance of having an ipod touch afterwards, therefore my question: any way (maybe be software) to check if it is really factory unlocked. I know the list on apples web-page, there it says can be unlocked by carrier, nothing about factory-unlock.
I tried the search, with no helping result, therefore my post. Apologies, if that has been dicussed already and I missed it.

Try using a custom 3.1 (non Activating) (baseband neutered) firmware to restore with
If is officially unlocked iTunes will do the activation part
I post a link to get custom firmware/s for all devices in this thread

Thanks a lot, found it ! Will provide feedback about the outcome later, might take a while though ! If result is positive, then I know what to do, many thanks to dev-team.
Here you go with the feedback: turned out it is really factory unlocked, shift-restored the unactivated firmware and later activated the phone via itunes -> congratulations, your iphone is unlocked.
Thanks a bunch for the hint with that firmware. Cheers !
