[Problem] [Solved] cant update to custom 2.2, error 1600
Hi. I have a 3g 16 gig iphone, which half an hour ago had a activated jailbroken 2.1 on it. In the meantime, I found that there is a custom firmware for the 3g 2.2 (without baseband update) and I decided to give it a go. I had iTunes 8.0.1.11 (im updating to 8.0.2 right now, im curious if this version prevents use of custom firmwares, or messes any part of the jailbreaking process up). I tryed everything. Sending my iphone into DFU mode (not recovery mode) and it gave me error 1600. I tried recovery mode restore, same thing, I tried normal restore mode, same thing. I decided to get it into DFU mode again, and install a clean non-custom 2.1. It then took me all the way through errors 9, 1062, and 6. So now, I have an unactivated, locked 2.1 that I am trying to update to the custom 2.2. I already tried that, and it still gave me error 1600. I just updated itunes to 8.0.2, (Vista 32bit) and Im curious of how things will go................... HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The custom firmware did not include the 2.2 baseband THANK GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK, iTunes 8.0.2, fresh clean unactivated 2.1, tried in dfu mode, and it still gives me error 1600. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, my bad, I forgot that restoring to a clean ipsw, un-pwnages your iphone. Im pwning it right now (2.1) and Ill be trying the custom 2.2 again afterwards.
Maybe someone will find this usefull
Ok, I pwned 2.1, it all went fine, I turned the iPhone off, sent it into dfu mode, shift clicked that iphonefix.de 2.2 custom restore, and I still get error 1600. Why??????
Ok, restoring using shift-restore in itunes in normal restore mode (not recovery, nor DFU restore mode) WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please one of you moderators mark this as solved!

im having problems with updating to 2.2 wth pwnagetool
if i enter into dfu mode and do option restore and select the original 2.1 FW it will restore.
if i select the custom 2.2 firmware made with pwnagetool i will get a 1600 error. ive tried restore mode instead of dfu and tried with and without the sim and still get 1600
I dont know what to do?

Update to 2.2 under Windows without Pwnage no Baseband
This worked for me as well. To reiterate:
1. download image from http://www.iphonefix.de (click on his ads, it's a superfast connection)
- When you get to the ftp server, follow this path:
- Firmware System Custom
- iPhone1,2_2.2_5G77_Custom_NonActivated_Restore.ips w (consider carefully which image you need...)
2. Don't put your phone in DFU mode. (when you do, you get unknown error 1600)
3. shift-Restore from within iTunes.
Give it some time, the image will load normally.

try normal restoring. have the phone be turned on (seeing your apps on springboard) then hit shift (ctrl in mac, or whatever...alt) and click the restore and select the custom firmware

hey guys,
i tried using pwnage 2.2 from iclarified and was able to make a custom restore build. I then used DFU mode to restore on iTunes but get the 1600 error. I then tried to rebuild a custom restore, used iTunes again and i get 2001 error. Any idea how to get around this problem? Let me know and thanks.

1. Make normal Apple 2.2 FW restore.
2. Then QuickPwn 2.2
then two options to get it unlocked
a. Cydia & bootneuter (neuter&unlock and rebember to put sleep setting to NEVER and don't touch until both flashes are done !)
b. Normal restore with Pwnaged 2.2 custom FW - now it doesn't give ERROR 1600 due already pwned iPhone.

dude, restoring to a normal 2.2 fw updates your baseband!!!!!!
that is not an option for me as I want to be able to soft unlock
Dont give such harmfull information to people, because it can screw up their phones for good...............
