Default [Problem] iPhone locked after upgrade to FW 3.0.1

    Hello wonderful clever iphone people,

Please help me... I am running an iphone 3g jailbroken on an orange sim...today i went to synch my iphone with my laptop & a message came up in itunes saying 'do you want to upgrade to 3.0.1' and like a fool i said yes. When the upgrade had finished - itunes came up with a big dirty message saying 'the sim inserted in this iphone does not appear to be supported' and my phone had some weird image come up on it of a usb cable and something else.

I googled the message and got some advice saying that if I used redsnow and did a jail break on it again that this would work. I followed all the instructions but when I plugged in my iphone to it, it only came up with the message again.

I googled answers again and one said that if I put in an 02 sim then synched, then my orange sim in again it would work.

This took the weird usb pic off my iphone but i have no signal on my phone & if i try synch to itunes again it comes up with the message.

How can I fix my poor phone :-(

Thank you in advance for all your help

Whenever you restore / upgrade firmware all jail breaking / unlocking would be lost.

Download firmware for your phones from,

    iPod and iPhone Firmware Download

Download both 3.0 and 3.0.1 versions for your phone.

    Switch off phone
Press power on and when apple logo appears hold home button with out releasing power for 10 secs
Then release home and continue holding home till you get message from Itunes that it found phone in recover mode.

Then select 3.0.1 which you had already downloaded.
Put the SIM inside which you want to use.
After restore process… Put readsn0w in action and point it to 3.0 when asked for firmware.
    Follow onscreen instructions
    This will jailbreak the device.

Then in cydia add repo666.ultrasn0w.com and run

    You will get unlock back.

Those were so much helpful tips. I was trying to do jailbreak for one of my friends iphone. That did not work out. Tried the ways you said. Worked smooth. Now the phone is jailbroken having fw 3.0.1.

    Default not able to jailbreak

    Hello Girish,
I also had the same issue. I have iPhone 3G and I upgraded it to 3.0.1 firmware and it stopped working. I followed all the steps specified by you, it all worked fine, I could finally see the "Done!" on redsn0w. I am using redsn0w version 0.8 on windows. At the end I am getting a message "Downloading Jailbreak Data" on my iPhone and a rotating cursor and a hard disk sign with a green down arrow. iPhone stays in that position for around 10-12 minutes and then apple icon comes and goes, but after that phone again reaches back to original state (i.e. only emergency calls are allowed).

Only difference from the steps specified is, SIM was inside the phone right from beginning because I could not understand when to take the sim out and when to put it back.

It would really be great on your part if you can provide some direction to me on the same.

    Regards
    Akshay

The point of putting SIM inside and jail breaking is it will *hactivate* the phone (where no official SIM is required for activation)

Download fresh copy of readsn0w and ipsw and try.
