Unlock iPhone 3G 3.1.3...

Hey Everyone,
Went down to AT&T today. Since my buddy missed his payment by 12 hours they won't let him add a line until the next billing payment. However, the guy at the store said the 3.1.3 unlock by Blackra1n came out like two weeks ago. I googled around and couldn't find anything definate and was hoping somebody could clear this up for me.

If your friend is actually on an AT&T contract. I'm not sure why you are actually asking for an unlock.

Regardless here are the facts

blackra1n cannot jailbreak OS 3.1.3

You can jailbreak (and hacktivate) OS 3.1.3 on a 3G with redsn0w

There is no unlock for baseband 05.12.01 that ships with OS 3.1.3

All this has been answered before. A search would have given you these answers. If you could explain more clearly what your friend's actual problem is - maybe we could help more.

He didn't pay his bill on time this month, he missed the payment by 12 hours. So, ATT said he defaulted the payment and can't add another line to his plan until June 22nd. The guy at ATT said people were unlocking or hacktivating with the 3.1.3 OS and the 5.12.01 baseband.

I'm not sure he understands what's going on. It doesn't matter if he unlocks the phone, the SIM card itself is blocked from making calls on the AT&T network as his account is in default state. It is correct that until that is paid and 30 days or so have passed he will not be able to purchase another line, consider it his reprimand for allowing his bill to become past due. That said though, just unlocking the phone isn't going to make it work again -- the line has been cancelled and the SIM would not work even if he managed to unlock the device.

That said, I could also be misunderstanding -- if that's the case, disregard. O:)

Nope, you hit it right. It's really messed up because the bill was do when he was on his flight back from Iraq, so they just kinda screwed him. I was hoping there was an unlock available because I currently have T-Mobile and on the 22nd of next month (June) I will be switching to ATT. However, make no difference now.

Gotcha -- you're correct. If you could unlock you could make it work on T-Mobile in the interim, but unfortunately that baseband is hard locked until next month when the new hardware/unlock/jailbreaks are all released. It's a shame to hear that he was serving the USA and that AT&T jacked his account and wouldn't work with him on it.

I agree, think he should be pushing AT&T hard on that detail. Carriers can and do make exemptions for special situations like that.

They are giving us nothing but problems now. On eBay I saw something, a guide rather. For 3 dollars how to unlock/jailbreak 3.1.3 with the 5.12.01 baseband. That got me a bit excited but figured I'd ask here and find out how for free before buying a guide. Anyone? Before I upgrade to OS4 tomorrow?

edit: The only way to get around it they said is to pay a $300 deposit that we'd get back in a year.

Awesome! Got it Unlocked! After 4 Months of Waiting! One more question :) I'm thinking of restoring and updating to iOS 4. I was told since I'm on a 3G running 5.12.01 baseband, that RedSn0w can jailbreak it? Then I can use Ultrasn0w to unlock as usual?
