iPhone has disgusting lag! Help!

Hey Everyone,
So recently, as in two weeks ago I jailbroke and unlocked my 3G running iOS4. Well, now I'm having severe issues, I have two choices. Downgrade to 3.1.3 and redo the jailbreak and unlock. Otherwise I can restore iOS4 and redo everything as well. The issue I'm having is with slowness and running apps. I used to have a bit of lag on 3.1.3 but it ran fine when I turned off my theme. Turning off my theme also helped on iOS4. However, I still have to start some apps like PocketCreatures three times before it runs. PocketDevil won't even run at all. Then to top it off, my favorite ngmoco games like WeRule and FingerGod freeze my phone up so bad I see my boot logo. Then I have to set my phone down for 10 minutes to let it do whatever the hell it's doing and catch up. I appreciate any and all help.

Indeed my 3g was teribbly super slow, especially when using safari..

Hate to say I don't know what to tell you. I took my 3G and put iOS 4.0 on it and it's been pretty fast. I did the multitasking and home screen wallpaper hacks (of course), but even that doesn't really slow it down. I mean, it's nothing compared to my 3GS or 4, but it's still not what you're describing. That said, I didn't unlock, I'm on AT&T -- so that may play part of it.

Did you restore from backup after upgrading or set up as new?

I restored from a backup I had. I'm gonna downgrade to 3.1.3 again I think.

EDIT: Could it be because I Jailbroke my phone using the RedSn0w 0.9.3? Is there something faster or better to Jailbreak 3G on iOS4?

Hey did you ever figure out your problem? I'm running iOS4.2 on my 3G, and it's slow too. This is a brand new 3G I just got from best buy's black tie warranty, set up as new.
My experience is that iOS4.x is slow on 3G's regardless. I tried it on my old one, and it was slow also, so I downgraded to 3.1.3 using a tool from redmondpie.

I have noticed the more music and apps you have on your phone, the slower it will go. I'd say your best bet is to reload 3.1.3 and jailbreak with spirit.
I think I may try overclocking this one slightly to see if that helps. If it does, I'll post back. May help you too. Just be careful of how much you OC. Mind the heat buildup most importantly of all. (3G has something like a 600MHz processor downclocked to like 400 something to save battery life and reduce heat buildup.) you don't want to cook your phone. Overclock like 20mhz a day and use it, so you can determine the fastest speed you can run without heat building up.

The reason the 3G runs slower is memory not CPU.

Turn off options you don't use on 4.2, (but be careful to do this in a way that allows you to revert where necessary) this will speed things up a lot.

The underclckin is primarily for battery life, preventing CPU overheat is a secondary goal.
