Iphone Car Upgrade?

I just had an idea and im not sure if its possible but i think some of you guys would agree its a reasonably good idea. So here it is, i want to take an apple remote install it in the car in a convenient place near my steering wheel and some how connect it to my iphone. so i can conveniently change songs without having to reach wayyyyy over to the iphones location unlock it switch songs while driving. So i was wondering if there is any way to connect or pair the remote with the iphone if not, i had an idea. Take my universal dock and get a usb/headphone jack splitter (if it even exist) and connect it that way...

any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

I havn't messed with the remote thing but i bought the dock and found a good location for it in my car and then added another hidden 12 volt source and ran the wires so that they are hidden and i can dock my iPhone within reach and not worry about it shutting off because it is charging. Worked out great.
