Yes this was the correct file, but it wasn't much help

You aren't getting very far into the restore process, this leads me to suspect the problem is either with your USB port, USB cable or the circuitry that controls the dock connector on the iPhone.

If you are using a non apple USB-30pin cable, that could be your problem. Also try a different computer (different model, different OS)
