The first iPhone took about 75 days to software unlock.
When the bootloader was updated to 4.6, it took around 85 days.
Those are the major previous releases, and they average 80 days for each unlock.
If I'm not mistaken, September 30th is the 80th day.
My post has no other point but to point out that it never took less than 2 1/2 months. So, let's relax and let the devs do what they do.
If you need an unlocked phone, just buy one! They are available in a few countries, and you can but it on ebay. That's what I ended up doing. Now I just need to wait for updated jailbreaks, and I'm good to go.
They are so much more expensive. That's why I'm not buying an unlocked phone. It's more or less double of what you can find a locked phone for.Quote:

I an on AT&T in the US. For me, it was worth it to buy an unlocked phone because i can avoid being charged the expensive monthly fees that AT&T charges on international plans. I can simply purchase a SIM in the local country. And I purchased a 16GB 3G iPhone for $1,100; I sold my locked 16GB 3G iPhone for $700. So it cost me $400 more. It's definitely not double. And now I won't have to worry about whether or not Apple will lock the phone every time that an update comes out. And for those people in the countries where the iPhone is not sanctioned, they will not have to worry if they will not be able to use their phone if Apple locks it or if they update unintentionally. It has happened before! I know that it's not for everybody, but it's an option. It wasn't an option for the firest generation iPhone, so an unlock was definitely necessary for it. I still have my first generation iPhone (in case my 3G iPhone freezes up due to buggy firmware 2.0), and I love it as well!
