How do I disable the spell checker?

Hi all. I'm Italian, living in Germany, often dealing with US people. I've chosen the Italian language localization for my new 3G. Now, every time I need to send a mail in German or English, the spell checker gets in the way, but I can't seem to find the old preference "autocorrection".
Anyone?

This is quite annoying if apple had it the other way around where you only tapped on spelling suggestion if you wanted change. Just want to disable it :(

If you have Jailbreaked your iPhone
There´s a download in CYDIA called asKB that disable this feature.
So, You dont have to use Terminal. Only install and it´s done !


(Works like a charm her in my iPhone 2G. I Think the 3G will work too)

I write in several different languages as well. The auto-correct feature corrects to the language of the keyboard. If you add a German keyboard under the international preferences, it will auto-correct to German. The same goes for other languages.

this is for anyone who can SSH to their phone. If you can do that go to the folder called /System/Library/TextInput/ and look for TextInput_en.bundle <<English keyboard. Just back up that folder to your computer and rename the folder in your iphone to something else "TextInput_en_bk.bundle" After that restart your phone and...auto correction will disable :D
