Grey wifi / no wifi

Something is not logical in your explaination. You write to downgrade iTunes and then to remove everything. Should'nt it be the opposit? 1st remove iTunes and then install version 7.6?...

Anyway I tried to install version 7.6 and when I plug my phone (3g 3.1.2), iTunes shows the popup saying that I'm in restore mode but it doesn't show the page with the restore button! If I double-click on the iphone a new window opens with a black page and still no button...

Did I miss a step?!

You are trying to overcomplicate things. I put the download link for older itunes first so you could start downloading it and have it ready to install once you had removed all existing iTunes components. I find it useful to list all the big downloads early so you can get started on the downloads as quickly as possible if you don't have fast internet connection for example.

You have missed something, probably a reboot or some apple component not removed or reinstalled correctly.

Sorry I didn't get that it was a "downloads" category, I guess I'm too much used to the "step by step" stuff. ;)

I will try to remove everything again, I might have forgotten to remove one of the components. I'll let you know if it worked. Thx!

Ok, I got iTunes to work with my iPhone, I can see the restore button.

I have a little problem though. My iPhone is a 3G and there are no 1.1.4 version firmware for 3Gs iPhones since it's newer... So I downloaded the firmware 2.0 "iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw" but when I try to use it for the restore iTunes displays an error : "The Iphone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred(1)." I tried with a newer firmware (2.2.1) but I still get the same message...

Maybe I should get another iTune version to do it? Any idea?

swifi is NOT supported on a 3G iPhone, it will not work and attempts to get it working will probably permanantly brick your iPhone.

The grey wifi problem on 3G and 3GS iPhones is a different problem. See Wifi Problems - The iPhone Wiki

Thx for your answer and for the link but the wiki page doesn't say much. I have the "Grayed out Wifi" problem and it says that I must have dropped my iPhone but I didn't...

This problem appeared one day as I was trying to get connected to my home wifi. It kept searching without finding anything so I restarted the phone and that's when I saw the greyed out "no wifi" for the first time. I haven't been able to get rid of it since :(

Please tell me this is not a hardware problem! :S

Probably not a hardware problem.. However Apple is treating it as a reason to replace the iPhone under warranty (be sure to remove all traces of jailbreak first)

As you are on 3G, you can try fuzzyband downgrader, there is a small chance that will work.

Are you saying that downgrading the baseband with fuzzyband might solve the problem? Is there a link between the baseband and the grayed out no wifi problem?

The problem appeared for a lot more people when they upgraded baseband to 05.11.07.
Blacksn0w unlock makes it much more likely that people will experience the problem.

Downgrading to baseband 04.26.08 allows use of ultrasn0w unlock and will minimise the chance that people experience the problem.

I tried Fuzzyband but I get the following message: "Sorry, downgrading will only work with Baseband Bootloader 05.08."

I guess I must give up and wait until a good soul releases a fix... I still haven't tried the freezer option though :P
