I was just wondering, If i purchased an Iphone in America this Christmas, Could i bring it back to the UK and use my own vodafone pay-as-you-go SIM?

No you cannot unlock it from the AT&T so you would have to use a SIM solution. You might as well buy a Pay as You GO iPhone from O2 here in the UK and SIM solution that, at least you would have your warranty from O2. Check their website for PAYG iPhones :-)
Sorry to ask, But what is a SIM solution?
SIM solution = a chip that hacks the carrier so you can use any sim.
You cannot walk into a store in USA and buy an iPhone, it is on a 2 year contract over there. Like I said, try O2 online or instore for a PAYG
