[3G] Buying iPhone 3g in France

In this link I saw that in France the iPhone 3g is locked but I can contact the carrier for authorized unlock

How long does it take? Anyone can buy unlocked or only french people?
I guess that I have to pay more, does anyone know how much more?

I think I read somewhere on these forums that its 50 euro more. Plus you need a French address and they take a bit of time to do it. I am not completely sure. Try searching the forum :-)

I have bought a 3G from France and I am not a French resident. However please note that I bought the phone with a prepaid card (5 EUR), rather then a subscription, for which it is plausible that you will need French residency.

I heard about the official carrier unlock and I it apparently costs 100 EUR. I will know more next week.

How much you payed?

I paid 509 EUR for the phone. In the meantime I obtained more information about the unlocking procedure. It can be performed though the Orange Customer Center as long as there are 100 EUR in the prepaid account. I will do this next week and let you know.

Good information since I am going to France in 2 weeks. Can you tell us what shop did you bought the phone at?

I am just writing from Paris.

You can buy a prepaid 8gb iphone for eu 409 and a 16gb for 509 aproximately. This price is after the tax return (13%) every foreigner is entitled.

There is no need to be a French resident. They will only ask you to provide a passport or federal id. It can be unlocked to any carrier if you buy a recharge of Eu 100. After 2 days you can call orange assistance ( dial 722 from the iphone) and ask for an unlock which codes will be sent in 48 hours by e-mail.

I have bought a 16 gb. It looks consistent to me since this info was confirmed by two diferent Orange store assistants. It has cost me therefore EU 609. I have already asked for the unlock.

I will write again as soon as I confirm it is unlocked.
