is it poiisble to turn 3g internet/egge OFF?
I do not want to be charged for using data ... simply because I do not have a data plan, txt msging, voicemail or caller ID. Can you turn off 3g? Or edge? So you can just use wi-fi? Because I do not want to be charged on the new iPhone
if there is a way, how?
the phone is not cracked/hacked, its off the shelf?
anyone, thx

Why do you have an iPhone if you don't use the internet/mail?

I think you can just delete or mess up with the APN settings and you won't get data working.
It's under Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network
Just delete what's there.
(I assume you're not using an "official" carrier and the settings will show up)

Hello, I'm a Mac...
-
the iphone is for a friend, she wants it cuz its good for txt messaging and its cool, the internet stuff is not necessary,
can anyone confirm that messing with the vpn settings will stop the internet? mostly the random use for updates and checking for new mail etc.
is there anything in particular that should be written??

If the iPhone is Jailbroken, download BossPrefs from Cydia and you can turn 3G and EDGE off.

Not VPN settings. APN settings.
If you want to check new mail on the go, unless you have wifi, you still need 3G/EDGE/GPRS.
