[Phone 3G][Rogers/Fido] Update: Rogers sim in Fido handset
I called Rogers today for clarification --- I'm getting a 16GB iPhone sent to me by Fido and wanted to use it with Rogers (Or sell it and buy a Rogers iPhone), and the CSR Rep told me that it's possible --- I just have to plug it into iTunes and it will "Unlock it" (I'm assuming she meant unbrick it/ allow it to be used with Rogers)...
Seems a little too easy. Has anyone run into this situation?
Here's what I did today: I plugged in my friend's FIDO Sim into my iPhone 3G (Rogers) and it didn't give me any message, it just gave me no service.Note it's possible he has a really old sim (Unlimited data days), but would it have worked if I plugged it into iTunes? (I don't sync with my laptop, so I have to bring it home to try and that isn't an option).
Exact same thing happens when I plug in my AT&T sim though...
So maybe it's too good to be true. I'll give it a try when I get home with my AT&T SIM.
Has anyone used their FIDO handset with Rogers or vice versa? They have the exact same model numbers according to the Apple page, so in theory they're the same phones... Although I'm sure theirs come with FIDO sims...

The information I have is that Rogers and Fido have a different MNC and therefore the SIMs are not interchangeable.
The MNC of Fido is 370 while Rogers is 720. The MCC/MNC pair is what the baseband uses to ID the cellular provider.

That's how it is with normal Fido / Rogers phones, but what about the iPhone? Did Apple specifically program Fido's iPhones differently from Rogers when they're being treated as the same company for this roll out? The model numbers on Apple's support siite are exactly the same... Do you think they would take the time to change the baseband lock for Fido phones? (--- I guess if they're going to sell some phones with Fido sims and some with Rogers sims, they might as well lock them down eh?)
Guess I'm going to sell my Fido iPhone.

Sure, if you don't mind a crippled handset with no 3G data.
