painfully slow
Hi guys,
My girlfriends iphone originally came from the states & over there i think it was locked to AT&T.
It has been jailbroken & unlocked so it can be used here in Australia.
3G version 4.0.1 with firmware 5.13.04.
Everything it does is painfully slow.
I have iphone 4 with version4.0.1 whit firmware 01.59.00, jailbroken & i love it, runs like it has i9 cpu with 8g of ram with the fastest internet connection.
The 3G is like it has the first modle cpu 258m of ram & dial up internet connection.
The difference is so unbelievable that it's not funny any more.
Not sure what to do, have been reading the post on & off for the last week, haven't found too much that relates specifically to this problem.
Don't want to bugger her phone on her so i'm asking for some expert help.
Thanks greatly.

iOS 4.0 and 4.0.1 are notoriously slow on the iPhone 3G. You should use PwnageTool to create a custom 4.2.1 IPSW (without baseband) and upgrade to that. 4.2.1 performs better on the older hardware. Beyond that though, iOS 3.x is still much faster on the 2G and 3G iPhones. Some people have elected to stay with 3.1.3 as it is the best performing iOS for those devices.
4.2.1 is much better than 4.0 and 4.0.1 though.

That's true, and something I neglected to mention -- if you hacktivated your phone and are using it unlocked on 4.0.1, you can see performance decrease because of the bad push certificates. This can also negatively impact battery life.

PwnageTool is a specific program, made by the iPhone dev team. Search for it spelled exactly like I did and you should find it.

Hi n1ckn4m3
http://www.hackint0sh.org/f148/358673.htm#post914733As mentioned above, PwnageTool is a Mac only application
Is there a pwnagetool for windows? & what version should i upgrade or downgrade to?

Ok got the phone working with version 4.2.1 (8C148) with the same firmware 05.13.04 using sn0wbreeze, then realized i still had to unlock it again
used ultrasn0w in Cydia. So now it has been upgraded, restored & unlocked but it is still as slow as a wet week, any ideas would be great.
Many thanks in advance Mark.

Are there specific things that seem to be slow? All in all, the 3G is not the fastest phone out there so it's not going to perform as quickly as the 4 or 4S (of course), but if you can give us specific examples of things that seem to be slow, we may be able to help identify any other issues.

lagging
No nothing specific but everything is slow, it's like it has to stop & think for a good few seconds when it's asked to do something. for instance when you move the slide lock & your icons appear they seem to stutter or blink as if they are hesitating before getting to the screen. others are Setting/general/ network .to get into networks takes like 25 seconds to open. everything you try to open or do on the phone is like it has to ask some some third party's permission before it acts on your request. everything is delayed. It's hard to explain it properly in words . hope this might help. thanks for the reply
