this is my first post even though i have been around for a bit, i have just been reading up all the threads.

i would like to offer my brand new unactivated internationally unlocked iphone 3g (from hong kong) to the hardworking hackers here to test things out in order to try to understand the inside of it better.

i know for example ta_mobile has lots of theories on the locking logic

i leave it to anybody in here to tell me what to do so that they can validate some of their theories, of course you have to have some credentials on hackintosh, i will not follow the instructions of just a newbie (like me). i will also use my own judgement to see if this person is asking me to do something risky or not.

so all in all, i will go home in about 6 hours and start the activation process, if anyone wants me to do some checking here and there during my process, please let me know.

And I hope you find someone serious you can give it to who'll work actively on the unlock. I doubt that it will be any help though, as people has already figured out how the lock works.

Agree, a very nice gesture!

JohnFa: The "problem" with the unlocked iPhone from Hong Kong is the fact that you can only get it with a 2 year contract (maybe even 3 years). So i got mine from italy ;-)

On the other hand I do like this policy way more than the one from all the other telcos. If you are living in Hong Kong you may use the contracted simcard while once travelling you are free to use prepaid simcards and can avoid roaming costs at least

Yeah, that definetly is a better policy than every other country. Why lock a cell phone? They could've had the same in-store activation and plan requirements as they have no, just that the phone would be unlocked?

You can get it directly from Hong Kong Apple online Store now. No more contract but you need to find someone in HK to get it for you cause Apple only ship to HK address.

i wish i was in the unlocking business, but not much business in hk, as they all come unlocked.
