No wifi, need to jailbreak iPhone 3G iOS 4.2.1
I am really having a tough time and I am praying that somebody will have a solution for me. I have an iPhone 3G that was on iOS3 (donít remember exact number but I know I used Blackra1n). I upgraded it to iOS 4 and it got really slow and my wifi stopped working. I upgraded again and am currently on iOS 4.2.1. My Baseband is 05.15.04. Wifi still doesnít work.
How can I jailbreak this phone and get the wifi working again? Keep in mind I do not have wifi or any sort of cellular data (I was using a non-ATT sim card).
Thank you in advance for helping me and have a merry Christmas!
Can't help you with your question I'm afraid, but have you considered downgrading to 3.x.x?
I had the same problem as you (SLOW iphone) and I just downgraded to 3.1.2.
It now works like a charm, everything is back to how it was before I made the mistake of 'upgrading' to IOS4.
The only problem I had was that some of the apps I had weren't compatible with IOS3, but I was able to manually install the IPA files of slightly older versions that work fine.
It's like having a brand new phone.

Is your IMEI and WiFi MAC address showing up as blank or all zeroes? That could be an indicator of a mis-flashed baseband or a bricked baseband, which carries the symptoms you've described. Let me know and we'll see what we can do.
Last but not least, 05.15.04 is NOT unlockable. The only way to unlock it besides a Gevey SIM or Turbo SIM is to upgrade the baseband to 06.15, but this carries its own set of risks and problems. Your GPS will likely stop working, you won't ever be able to downgrade the baseband again, you won't be able to do a standard restore ever again without a custom firmware, and you can't undo it. It's only recommended if you absolutely, positively must have an unlocked phone and are on an unhackable baseband.
That said, james is correct, iOS 3.x is much faster on your hardware than iOS 4 is.
The preceding forum post has been brought to you by the letter "N" and the number 42.
