    Default Need Help w/3G, Ver2.2.1 (5H11), Modem Firm 04.20.01, bootloader 05.09

I just bought this jailbroken iPhone. The phone is a 3G, 8gigs, version 2.2.1 (5H11), modem firmware 04.20.01 and bootloader of 05.09.

How can I unlock this?...I've never seen this before since I am a newb.

Can I use a rebel sim card or how can I downgrade the modem firmware to 2.28 so I unlock this phone.

Any help or suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance.

    Foreverbling.

Wow first of all the modem firmware of 04.20.01 indicates that the iPhone you bought was previously downgraded from 3.0 OS because the highest baseband(modem firmware) of a version 2.X goes to is 02.30.03.

The only way you can downgrade ANY baseband over 02.28.00 is with a 5.08(5.8) bootloader. Unfortunately for bootloader 5.09(5.9), it is impossible to downgrade your modem baseband to 02.28.00. I'm not sure to downgrade to 02.30.03 either. I say that because I'm not aware of any Turbo SIM cards that work with 3.0 OS basebands...yet. If it is somehow possible to downgrade to 02.30.03 from what 4.X, you can get a working Turbo SIM to temporarily unlock your iPhone 3G. It's what I've been using for the past three months since I accidentally bought a 2.2.1 firmware 3G.

It is not possible top downgrade the BB (apart from physically removing the chip and reprogramming). Some piggyback SIMs claim to work with the Beta BB but I really wouldn't trust them - but they are your only option until FW 3.0 is officially released and unlocked when, with any luck, you should be able to upgrade and unlock.

    UPDATE:

I bought a Turbo Sim for the 3G...2 days still working fine with the FW 2.2.1 (5H11), Modem FW 04.20.01 & BB 05.09.

Don't know how long it will last but I will keep the forum posted.

Thanks for ALL of the replies/comments to my orignal post.

    Hey Joy2DaWurld,

Your Turbo Sim still working? Is that the same Turbo Sim you purchased/using since the "accidental purchased"? Do you leave your phone on or off when not using. The guy at the store where I bought mine said the sims can last 1 month or even 6 months depending on how heavily a person useS them...I am thinking that it depends on if you keep your phone on all day to make/receive phone call, send text, etc...

Is that true...can someone tell about their experiences with Turbo Sim...?? At night I simply turn my phone off since I am sleeping or I turn it off during my 1 hour ride on the subway to work. Can't I just put it on "airplane mode" and leave the phone on during the night/subway ride then after that turn airplane mode on? What do you guys think?
