Default Need help passing water damaged 3g!!

ok so i bought a 3g and it said nothing about it having water damage... so i went on the apple website and found out the phone has warranty still. HOWEVER they do not cover water damage... so i am stuck.. i am thinking of replacing the water indicators but how many exactly are there on the 16gb 3g. and is that the only thing that apple checks for water damage or is there something else i need to know? any help is appreciated

Personally I would find out what recourse you have against the seller for not disclosing that the device has water damage and find out if you could return the device or refuse payment as the water damage impacts the usability of the device, and if it wasn't disclosed at the time of purchase you may be protected by the company you purchased through. If it was just a "gentleman's transaction" where money changed hands but there was no receipt nor third party involvement, you may be out of luck from that perspective.

Unfortunately, it would be very difficult for you to purchase the identical moisture indicators and pull one over on Apple -- they historically have been pretty clear that they would rather refuse a warranty repair than do something that may cost them money -- e.g., the issues where people were using MacBooks in smoky environments and Apple refused warranty based on that fact.

Secondarily, opening the iPhone itself voids the warranty and unless you've done it multiple times, it's not the easiest thing in the world to accomplish in a manner that doesn't make it apparent to an Apple technician that you've done it.

Doing a broad search on the internet shows a lot of people with hit or miss results. There seem to be other things they check, and they have probably seen a LOT of devices with water damage -- so while they may use the indicators as backup data, I'm hearing that an experienced "Genius" is able to classify something as water damaged even if the indicators do not change color.

Last but not least, ultimately, what you'd be doing would be scamming Apple out of legitimately earned money, when they're undeserving of such. The person who sold the phone to you without disclosing the water damage is the party at fault, and attempting to have Apple to take the financial hit isn't necessarily the most moral or ethical way to solve the problem. That said, if you're not shackled with the burdens of morals and ethics, do a quick google search and you'll find a few documented ways to try and pull the wool over Apple's eyes -- but I don't think you'll get much support with any of those methods here.

Good luck -- I hope you get your money back from the seller so you can buy an iPhone that works out of the box
