Default [Itching to upgrade to 2.0?] Do the smart thing and wait

“All human wisdom is summed up in two words - wait and hope”

On behalf of the Hackint0sh.org team
2.0 is around the corner. As your heart pounds faster, for some anyways, and as you get more excited with the new features coming, like MMS or the iTunes Control, be patient and dont upgrade.
For you old timers, you know this. You know that you should always wait and not upgrade because if you do upgrade and there is no solution for it, you will end up with a bricked phone. For the newcomers, "wait and hope." Let reports come in of how 2.0 reacts to Installer and Jailbroken iPhones- In fact we know that 2.0 doesnt allow either, including unlocking. What we dont know, is what the "gold master" solution has that may further prevent unlocking and jailbreaking.
Also, if there is another developer out there claiming to have the unlocking capabilities for 2.0, always double check with moderators and with old timers on hackint0sh.org to make sure it wont brick your iphone, or hard-code a MAC address to every iphone it unlocks *cough cough*

Stay tuned though. You never know what may be coming or released in the next few weeks.

You can, through DFU mode. Just takes an extra step or two....because after restore, it gets stuck in Recovery Mode. I always use ibrickr to reset into normal mode but it always wants me to restore again. So you restore one more time and then use ibrickr to boot into normal mode and you're set.........with an upgraded baseband ofcourse.

    But I don't mind since I am a legit AT&T customer.

there's no guarantee that Apple won't apply a safeguard to prevent downgrading, and a non-neutered BB bootloader wouldn't be able to downgrade the BB without the precious secpack if I understand correctly.

don't let our current procedures lure you into a false sense of security. Granted, the chances of any significant hurdles are remote as far as downgrading goes, but i'm sure a couple of you veterans remember the 1.0.2 unlocked > 1.1.1 disaster. Even though the bricking wasn't permanent, it was still pretty inconvenient at any rate, and the next bricking might be less kind.

Why would you want to downgrade the BB anyway if you are legit AT&T. Unless you want to neuter (unlock) the BB, there is no reason why you should keep the new un-neutered BB with 1.1.4 firmware.

Most of our users and people that are on hackint0sh are looking for the unlocking solutions

    That's absolutely true!

Being on AT&T just has its advantages sometimes. Such as being able to use the newest beta firmware(s) (some) without Pwnage Tool.

Yeah, but you can't downgrade the baseband without a neutered baseband bootloader (or the secpack) which is why it would be a problem if anyone upgraded without using pwnage.

    Yah, i agree with you!

I meant to say, "...there is no reason why you 'shouldn't' keep the new un-neutered BB with 1.1.4 firmware"

But like N41 said, most people want the BB unlocked and thus upgrade using Pwnage is a must, like you said, otherwise, downgrading the BB would not be possible.

I am just speaking from an AT&T user's perspective....as there is absolutely no reason to have an unlocked BB since you're on a legit network to begin with.
