Bluetooth file transfer?.. Really, only idiots on Nokia need that shit. Get your own stuff.
Bluetooth file transfer, just means ur pirating music/etc.
If you want to send some1 a picture you took, EMAIL it.
.....and the person has to wait till the time they have access to email to be able to see the photo? What you're essentially saying is BT file transfer is useless.....since one can email pretty much anything?

But how about a ringtone I made, and want to share it with someone? Mail it? Then the person has to go download the ringtone, and load it to their phone! And oh wait...I can't even email a ringtone on iphone 3G!!

Admit it....absence of BT file transfer is a big drawback, on both versions of the iphone.

I guess iPhone in India will have the same moderate success HTC WinMo enjoys.
    Nothing less, nothing more.

    now see above thats cool.
Not only got both phones but gifted the 3g to the GF. lol

I never heard the lack of blue tooth for file transfers being made an issue out off.

But no blue tooth head set support was.

In a small poll I did on my club at www.rddreams.com where quite a few members have phones.

70% of iphone owners purchased their phones in the Grey market at arround Rs 22,000/- for a 16 GB modell. 20% got their phones from the US and 10% have purchased it at the offical launch. Lets face it you got to be really rich to afford the 780$ official price tag.

On the flip side our boy Steve says he is going to make 40 Million units this quater read it somewhere.

So things are going to have to change.

As to charging the full price I think the guys at apple kenw there is no way in hell we Indians are not going to figure out how to crack the phone.

If you view the number of hacked phones vs regular users I think in India 90% of the phones are hacked. WHere as in the US / UK that number is way lower.

...plus the telcos would be wary of 2/3 year contract phones. What would they do if people simply stopped paying? There's only a number of goons/"recovery agents" you can put after people....... So the telcos want all of their money upfront before you even lay your hands on your phone...no pay as you use business....

You can dwell in the past and keep cribbing that Bluetooth file transfer isnt there.
Infact, Im sure apple can enable it with a simple firmware update, and at the same time, open up the phone to attack from virus' and what not.

    Also, Ever heard of FILES?...
Most new Phones have Wi-Fi capabilities, so you can transfer using Files, if your really desperate.

If you want to send your mate a ringtone, send it while your making it on your PC. Im sure that you have internet, and the bandwidth to send 1 small .mp3 or .m4r file to your friend by mail, who inturn can just put it onto his/her phone.

The only "major drawback" is the lack of A2DP support. Nothing else.
Again, something Apple could include in the next firmware update, as playing music through a BT headset is kinda possible anyway.

I even have Video recording on my phones now, also sms forwarding, and all the other "lacking" features.

Sorry, but do you live in India?!...

You know, the Telecom rates here?... I guess not, or you conveniently chose to ignore them.

Unlike USA, we have free incoming. No crap Minutes system.
We have Lifetime prepaid for Rs.300/400 (8-10$).
    We have Local calling at 60p - Re.1 a minute (1-3 cents a minute)?
STD rates are Rs.1-2 (3-6 cents a minute?)

Not to mention killer plans like 1000 mins absolutely free, and 1000 sms free for just Rs.399 a month rental ($10).

Do you really think, the crowd would react well to the iPhone being 10000, and then tripling the call rates, so that they can recover their money?...

ALSO, 200$ in USA, is shit.

It costs you 500$ after you cancel the contract, and also, it costs you 1680$ in the 2 years to use the iPhone on AT&T. Thats aorund Rs.67200+8500.....
    Really fing cheap eh?

You can get the iPhone 8GB for 29.5k here, then buy a Vodafone/Airtel Lifetime Prepaid, and sit with the phone till you die, having spent lesser than 30,000.

You have those that hate the iphone. You have those that love it.
But why is it that some people are so desprate to defend it at all costs.

Its got bugs. Its far from perfect but its unique factor allows some people to over seee those defects / short comings.

    Dude with the GPS question.
Chk out the Nokia phones you get for 8K they give you maps, hands free, and with directions. Thats what you call GPS.
What the iphone has is google maps + GPS CHip + the very basic GPS features.
I feel they will sort it out eventually.
    How soon ?
All depends on how much heat the public gives them.
People need to be vocal and let apple know.
Maybe then they will move the 200 programmers they have working on how to lock the phone and put some of those guys on fixing the blue tooth and other glaring issues.

I love my Phone. I love apple. But without some arm twisting they aren't going to do shit.

They don't care what you think as long as you buy their phone. As you apparently have. So forget about being vocal. You have already done that ;-)

BTW did the fix anything in the 3G apart from the bare-GPS?
    Camera, removable battery? Nada!

It doesn't bother me in the least that BT file transfer isn't present on the iphone. I just mentioned it as one of the drawbacks, among others, which would take the sheen of the iphone, and make it not worth the 31k.

So there are other (admittedly less convenient) ways to do the things one would usually do using BT file transfer. So you see the utility of doing these things in the ways you have mentioned....just that using BT for doing them is for "Idiots on Nokia"! Good, sound logic!

I'm sure you're aware that you can't use the phone function of the iphone while you're using this "feature" of listening to music wirelessly, in mono!

So? I can even use my phone as a vibrator! Or use a VNC client to control my PC from the iphone. No one is debating the capabilities of the iphone here. It's about the features you get out of the box at the price you pay for the iphone.

Oh really? Dude, I very much live in India, and am reaping the full benefits of the telecom revolution here! But, then you also must be aware of what happened when Reliance came up with subsidised (500 INR) handsets contracted for 2 years. People simply stopped paying after a while, and either sold off the handsets or kept using them for incoming calls. I have seen many people with outstanding bills of 60k to 100k INR, which was never paid to Reliance. Vodafone and Airtel have obviously learnt their lessons...and are not going to give subsidised, contracted phones. That was the point I was making as to why the telcos are pricing the iphone at such a ridiculous point.

I own the original iPhone and a iMac. That being said, I do not need convincing, neither do I need any new features to buy the 3G, This is practically the only phone I can use with its unique User Interface and Easy to Customize GUI. Yes it lacks many features, that the simplest of phones have. But I cannot imagine using anything other then a iPhone, As it truly changes everything. As for the price, its approximately the same in Philippines. To anyone who is disappointed by the launch, I personally would buy it no matter what, Though the only thing bad is the price, It should be cheaper. Thats one thing no one can debate. I have booked my iPhone on 21st and I haven't recieved it yet, just cause I live in a remote town filled with incompetent staff at Vodafone, so things could be worse for you City guys!

stuff like controlling your pc thru vnc we where doing with ancient s60 nokia phones.

I would never buy one at its present price.

Mine was gifted to me. And I use Dynolicious for tuning my engines.

Had hoped to write s/w to control my Megasquirt but the SDK turned out to be such a circus I drooped the idea.

Why the iphone is really selling in India.
I think a poster put it across best. Its an aspirational tool.
