Default iPhone3G and GoPhone: Is It True?

Hi there, is it true that with an iPhone 3G - locked to AT&T and a GoPhone prepaid SIM with 3G data ("mediaNet" or something like that)... it works?

Yes if your phone is active all you need to do is drop in your Pay Go sim for Medianet.

I think this works with all iPhones now. I testet it in Germany with my iPhone 3G. Took out the iphone plan sim card, and popped in a T-Mobile Germany sim card - works.

If you add on the unlimited MediaNet, do you 3G speeds or just edge?

With my old 2G unlocked phone (1.1.4 back then) I went into a store and bought a $25 AT&T Gophone and SIM. I never put the SIM in the Gophone itself but put it right into the iphone and activated the SIM online using all the details of the iphone. I added MediaNet for unlimited data and the whole setup worked perfectly on EDGE. Never had to set up any APN or anything. (2G phone is truly unlocked as happily accepts my UK T-mobile SIM when I go back there.

When I got my USA locked 3G iphone I simply pulled the SIM out of the 2G phone and popped it in the 3G one. Everything worked right away with no alterations to phone or SIM and, YES you DO get 3G.

The AT&T PAYG GoPhone SIM with MediaNet functions perfectly on both 2G and 3G iphones even if they are carrier locked. A nice option if you dont want a contract.

    Hope this helps.

asifanwar- thank you, this sounds like the solution as we all wait for the software unlock.

    cheers!

Yes has worked out very nicely so far. I can switch the SIM between the (main use) 3G phone and the (test) 2G phone with no issues. I kept the 2G phone for testing purposes so I can download and try new things without hosing the 3G one. Bit luxurious but has been very useful - 2G phone gets restored whenever it goes wonky and only things I really want/need get put onto the 3G.

Hmmm, I think I might do this until the soft unlock comes out.......I can just buy the pay-as-you go medianet unlimited without having a pay-as-you go phone service? Because I can just use my other phone to make calls and text right now, but I would like to use everything else on the iphone for now.

Also when I look up the medianet plan, the iPhone isn't showing up on there. But it does work right?

Btw my phone service is on tmobile, so I don't really want to pay for a pay as you go plan since I won't even use the minutes.

Cool. Thanks to all the posters for assisting. AT&T locked iPhone 3Gs, should have no issues with GoPhone plans... From all the sources I have read.

As for Medianet APN settings and all that, I'm not sure, hopefully someone else can assist... Usually there's a lot of info on Google. And yeah, I don't expect any official GoPhone support to tell you how to make it work in your non-contract iPhone 3G...

Would this work in Sweden too? I mean, if get a card from the states and put it into my phone here? I wonder what will happen...
