Iphone wont boot, itunes wont restore
Please. Anybody....help me...
I've got a 3G iphone which I jailbroke and was enjoying. I noticed it was running a little slow, didn't think anything of it. left it to charge overnight, when i came back all i saw on the screen was that pineapple logo.
I tried pressing buttons, eventually got to the screen where you see the cord and the itunes logo and, 'slide for emergency' i looked at it for a moment then a dialogue came up saying 'repair needed, iphone cannot make or receive calls'
I tried to restore it with itunes but i got unknown error 1604, could not be restored.
i can only shut down my iphone by holding the two buttons, when i try to turn it on it hangs on the pineapple logo for ages then takes me to a cartoon picture of steve jobs spouting some nonsense (which i understand is the restore screen). I can't get back to that screen of the cord and the itunes logo, not that it would probably do me any good.
Ive been reading the net all morning and any solutions i found seemed a bit bogus, tried them anyway, and they didn't work.
reinstalling itunes
making new account
trying on another computer, another usb port, etc.
does anyone have any real solutions to this? please... I think im going to cry...
I'm going to go curl up in the corner now.
PS. I can't even send it back to apple because my warranty is void for jailbreaking, and i cant get rid of the jailbroken firmware because i cant restore, which is my problem in the first place!

Try this and tell me if it works:
Make sure your iPhone is connected to your computer.
Next, Hold the power and sleep buttons until it shuts off.
Release them, then hold down the power and sleep for 10 seconds, count, 1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.9, and release the power button.
KEEP HOLDING THE HOME BUTTON
Your screen should not turn on, and after awhile, you should hear your PC ding, as it detects the phone.
Your phone is now in DFU mode, go and head and restore!

thanks for the reply!
im doing it now as i type this, so far the iphone screen has gone white...'preparing iphone for restore' says itunes...screens switched to an apple logo...still preparing for restore (its taking a while, its not looking good...)
dang
error 1604, it did everything it usually does when i try to restore, except i got that white screen for a few seconds first
thanks for the suggestion though, got any more ideas?

yeah...thanks
ask i said XianLi, I've already tried everything suggested, on the wide wide world of web.
different computers, different USB ports, restarts, re installs, blah blah blah
there are however some fixes i cant try using ibrickr and ziphone because i have an iphone 3g, and these programs dont do much for me yet.
There arent any threads concerning this problem on an iphone 3g, which is why i made one

Senior Professional
Array
I have the same problem. But 1601 error and no logo.
Only DFU mode works. When i try to restore, always get 1601.

Are you just pressing restore, or Shift + Clicking ?
-
im shift clicking, and then selecting iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw which i downloaded prior to jailbreaking with the pwnage tool, this is the unmodified file though

Is there some other tool i can use to restore firmware besides itunes? something more...aggressive?
can i access the iphones filesystem somehow when in DFU mode and just wipe it, and replace it with ALL the files from my friends working iphone of the same model?
I've been googling around and alot of people with this error are just having problems connecting to PC, i dont care about the error in itunes, i wanna fix my iphone so it starts up and i can make phone calls! i can worry about itunes later

After resetting into DFU, just press restore, don't shift restore.
