iPhone real capacity?
Hi guys,
i saved a files on my iphone 3g 16GB and was unable to relocate it as i forgot where i saved it. So here's what i did. I copied all the files shows on "Raw System Files" on iFunBox iphone explorer. and copied all the files shown on it and copied it to my hard drive. the whole capacity of the folder which i copied the iphone files were approx 30.64 GB.
Has anyone else come aross this?
i can understand a few GB's for the OS, but over 15GB????
any ideas?

The capacity of a 16Gb iPhone is 16Gb including system files.

Did you try what i mentioned. i too thought like you did until i copied the whole system on to the pc. actually you dont even need to copy it. you can just select all and drag it on to a folder on your pc, i funbox will first calculate the capacity before coping. then you'll see what im taking about.

Your confusion is caused because of differing file systems. The same file can have different file size depending on the file system it is being stored on. Transferring the iPhone content from a MAC based FS to FAT32/NTFS might definitely have caused the size inflation.
As for the 16GB iPhone OS idea, that is completely impossible since the IPSW that contains the OS restore is less than 250MB. Rest assured, a 16GB iPhone has no more than 16GB of hard disk space
Hope this solves some confusion!

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2445/...09c96633_o.jpg Yes, file sizes can go to double for certain file types. Although it is very iffy that the entire content size doubles especially if the target FS is NTFS. If not the only reason, the FS will definitely be one of the reasons
