You could buy one and pay the termination fee for less then that.... its odd.

Many reasons why people don't go the early termination route.
-The main reason- they want an unlocked iphone, not lock
-Too much hassle to deal with; people want to pay, get the phone, and not worry about it
-Good credit is needed to start a plan (that depends on things but yeah...)
-Most people don't know what's actually going to happen when they cancel, like if att would come back and cock slap you with a 500 dollar fee hidden in the contract.

And no RYU, you cannot get an unlocked iphone... unless you're willing to pay top dollar, which you shouldn't be.
