Was that a UK phone it works on then?
Might just pay the £35 a month and jailbreak.

You would need someone who has bought one from the USA to confirm that their O2 SIM card worked at activation in itunes in the UK. I wouldn't risk buying from the States until it is confirmed that it is possible as said before, you might invest in a paperweight until unlock is developed and that might take days/weeks/months or god forbid, never happen at all
You can get an O2 plan for £30/month which is not a bad deal if you consider a Simplicity SIM plus data comes to £22.50 a month anyway. The maths goes like this:-
O2 contract plus 16GB 3G = £540 (18 months) contract fee + £159 iPhone = £699
O2 Simplicity + bolt on = £22.50 x 18 = £405 + going rate for 3G on Ebay (about £450+) = £855+
Doesn't take a genius to calculate the way to go! You get less monthly minutes but you get access to the Cloud WiFI network, Visual Voicemail and your warranty actually applies. It is a no brainer at the moment.

Yeh does work out better, but i would go for £35 a month for more texts, i text more than i talk. Kinda crap the amount of texts they give.
Just wish an unlock was out then i could stay with 3, 600mins1000texts a month for £15 and £5 "unlimited" web.

A friend in Iran asked me to purchase a 3G phone for him from US and send it to him in Iran. I have no experience with 3G phones. If I send him a US 3G iPhone will he be able to unloack it with Winpwn and use it in Iran?

However..................Take a step backwards a second ..18 months worth infact... What phone were you carrying then ? Do you change your phone once a year, but in reality wish to do so 6-9 months after?
The £30 plan is not worth the paper its written on which has virtually zero value.
However, you can guarentee, within this time frame, Apple would have significantly upgraded the current iphones features, probably twice.
So my view is if you wish to change your phone fairly frequently, get one from the states, (you can get some reasonable priced ones, providing you know how to run Ebay effectively). Grab yourself a simplicity chip, then enjoy the flexibility of FREEDOM !
..
How anyone can sign up to 18months for a phone, is beyond me.. 12 months is too long. 6 months for me would be ideal !.
Dont get conned into taking the 18 months , then get talked into another contract around the 12-15 month time, where you'll end up paying double !!
Check my i'd on ebay i have a few for sale atm

A US iPhone 3G WILL NOT WORK IN THE UK!
iTunes would happily activate if the phone accepted it BUT the US iPhone is locked to AT&T and will not accept an O2 SIM!
iPhone 3G is NOT unlockable at this time so it will only work in the country you got it from unless you buy a factory unlocked version
from Italy.
iPhone US 8GB
FW 1.0.2--> iUnlock--> iPhoneSIMfree--> 1.1.1 --> 1.1.2--> Soft upgrade 1.1.3 --> 1.1.4 using signal.app
iPhone UK 16GB
FW 1.1.3 OOB --> 1.1.4 --> iPlus 1.2 unlocked!
<----If I helped you out, rep points are always nice (thanks for that idea!)

What so winpwn doesn't let you activate the iphone 3G, to bypass activation like 2G iphones?
