Assuming that you could terminate the contract and keep the phone after exactly after one month, it still means that there is a $305 "tariff" (200 termination fee, 35 startup fee, 70 for 1 month service) for buying an iphone and not using it on ATT.

It looks like the 3G iphone will cost us an extra $100 over the current version.

Apple and ATT appear to have found a way to stick it to us.

looks like we would still be able to simply buy it straight...

    AT&T says...

"People who are ineligible for the subsidized price can certainly buy an iPhone for the "unsubsidized price," Siegel said. What that is, however, has yet to be determined. AT&T will release that price sometime before the iPhone goes on sale."

You can bet your life that the unsubsidized price will be way more than current iphone (gen 1) prices. I'm betting that it will be at least $600 and $700 for the 8G and 16G phones.

Don't forget that ATT doesn't want us to buy an iphone without a contract. There is no way that they will price it fairly!

It looks like I may be off by $125.

An Australian company has just released pricing for the iphone showing it will cost USD $730 and $825 respectively for an unlocked 8GB and 16B

I have been using this stupid blackberry pearl in hopes of waiting out for some kind of miracle in which I could get the iphone 3g w/o switching providers but I might as well face it and get that stupid blackberry curve. Everyday the news gets worse and worse for the folks in the states.

i think things with att is related to being milked (probably att paid good sum to apple initially for being unique carrier) by apple for being early adapter so they wanna hold the ropes tight this time... but i also think that the plan with iphone and att cant be split is a good court case for consumers... never heard of this kind of sh!t ever in my life
