[iPhone 3G][At&T] Tether your iPhone's 3G Internet
ok first off, we all know we can Tether the 2G iPhone with Edge and WIFI to use your the iphone's internet on your laptop, my question is would we be able to do this once its jailbroken on the 3G version?
1. Jail Break
2. Use this tutorial would it work?

What are the rules AT&T has for tethering, also any way to avoid them be able to see you using this?
I ask a ATT representative about tethering and he said I could do for $60 a month extra i said WOW!
I also read that they said they wouldn't allow it so now i am confuse!
Here's that Mac version if u want to try it on your 2G iPhone

I don't see why not. I dont personally have a 3G iPhone, but since it uses pretty much the same OS, the BSD subsystem along with srelay should still work once it is jailbroken.
As for experiences with tethering my current iPhone with my laptop, they have been largely unsuccessful. I did occasionally get a web page up, but anything that used a port other than port 80, such as ftp or ssh, didn't work. It also seemed even slower than what I could get via MobileSafari over the same Edge connection.
I'd like to see development of tethering over Bluetooth. But that may just be wishful thinking.

See I read multiple guides about tethering the original and I just could not get it up and running...I think it was the part with proxies...I am going on a trip tomorrow and I bought a Nokia 6126(very nice) on ebay just so that I can easily tether! All I do is connect via USB (my laptop doesn't have bluetooth) click connect in the network window and I'm good. The strange thing is that the EDGE seems so fast on my laptop compared to my iPhone. I really wish their was an easy way to tether iPhone just so I don't have to carry my papercl.. i mean sim ejector tool everywhere!

UPDATE!!!! POSTING FROM MY COMPUTER USING MY IPHONE'S 3g internet right now!
Don't use that tutorial, but install Socks Relay from Cydia. Also install connect.c, and 3proxy. I don't know what exactly I did, but it's working now! woo!

Can anyone else confirm that iPhone 3G srelay tethering is working? This is The thing that will actually make me re-consider getting a 3G:iphone:. It's very hard to justify going from unlocked 2G iPhone with T-mobile $5 data hack (totals ~$40/month) to a $75 plan with AT&T.

I tried this, but couldn't get it working. I've never tried to tether before, though -- seemed so worthless on EDGE with the old iPhone.
Anyway, I installed the srelay, connect.c, and 3proxy, then ran srelay through an SSH session. Configured iPhone to a static IP on my Mac's ad-hoc network and set up my Mac to use a socks proxy at my iPhones IP and port 1080. No access. Anyone else get this working?

I can confirm
I was able to tether my 3g last night using socks proxy from cydia. I found an older tutorial that helped me get through the process. I was only using firefox on my mac, apparently it's harder to get the whole computer on the proxy. There is a link to the tutorial I was talking about on modmyifone, just look for posts by barold.
Good luck! I'm really happy cause I'll be flying in a couple days and won't have to buy Internet during my layover!!!
