I have unlocked 3G, and it is working flawlessly with T-Mobile's EDGE.
Hey bogdi1988, how good is the universal sim?
    Everything works all the time?

just for added clarification; i worked at t-mobile for 2 years and during my time in the NY market (first to have 3g) i did alot of checking on what frequencies the 3g network used. t-mobile uses 1700 for uploads and 2100 for downloads. a customer care rep on the phone usually has no idea about such things they just want you to sign up. check phonescoop.com or fcc.gov to look at the 3g capable phones t-mobile sells and look at what frequencies they use. it is 1700/2100mHz. the iphone uses 1900/2100

    Of course EDGE works.
Even my locked 3G iphone using Universal Sim works with t-mobile EDGE too.
I used Universal for almost two months without a problem. Everything works except 3G.
I sold my locked 3G about the same price as I bought the unlocked one.
    So basically I just traded.
Get the official unlocked if you can. It worth it.
You can update in the future without a problem. Any sim card can activate the phone. And you can slide in any sim card to to use anytime you want.

universal sim is pretty good. got it from an ebay seller, popped it in the phone and it's been working fine since. never updated the card so i i think i am using version 4**. updated the phone from 2.0 to 2.0.1, 2.0.2 and 2.1 with no problems.
