Default Iphone 3g stuck with a black screen

Hey guys. I need help with one of my friends iPhone 3g. its stuck in a black screen and doesn't show anything. i dont know the firmware or base-band of this device. If i boot it in dfu mode i find in itunes and tried to restore. But it gives 1601 error even with the official restore. Made a custom firmware it snowbreeze and pawend in dfu mode with ireb. then it gives 2005 error. What should i do next? Any idea will be very helpful. Thanx in advance.

Probably a hardware issue. Publish your iTunes restore log to confirm.

You know, I post the link explaining how to publish your log file and people still copy/paste the whole log into a thread. Please read the guide. It's unmanageable with long log files in a thread. I've fixed it for now.

That log file tells me only one thing of use: you don't have a valid SHSH blob for iOS 4.1 for that device.
This is not a critical error on an iPhone 3G, but you need to start the restore in pwned DFU mode (even for restoring an original IPSW) to get past iTunes checks on this (you only need to bypass iTunes as there are no hardware SHSH checks built into the iPhone 3G). Your other option is to use iOS 4.2.1 (which is still signed by Apple)

Aside from that the log file tells me you are trying to restore iOS 4.1 with iTunes 10.4 (should work)

1601 is so generic an error and fails so early in the process that it could be anything (Apple only suggests that it could be old/corrupt itunes mobile device driver install - so you could try this procedure iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: How to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) on Windows as a first step)

I wanted to see the error that failed with 2005 (or anything where the restore actually got past iTunes and started running on the device)

Thanx Olethros. And sorry for the log. It wont happen again. I got past the 2005 error. Made a custom 4.1 with snowbreeze. Used Tinyumbrella to run TSS server and used IREB for the pawned dfu mode. Itunes was stuck a long time in preparing iphone for restore and finally gave the 1601 error I am not going for 4.2.1 since i wont be able to kick it out of recovery mode if the phone is in ipad baseband. BTW i dont know the baseband or FW version of the phone.

Did you try to reinstall the mobile device driver as I linked to? (apologies I linked to a mac guide and you are obviously using windows - have fixed the link now)

I don't like or trust iREB - it's all-in-one approach often hides the real error, I would prefer to know that the device is JUST pwned (via the appropriate DFU pwn exploit for the device) and deal with specific errors that occur later via other tools.

I would suggest you restore to stock iOS 3.1.3 if you are unsure of the baseband/firmware installed on the phone.
This removes any issues related to SHSH blobs.

Also try a different computer (preferably one that isn't the same hardware or built from the same OS image) - there is so much variance in the quality of USB2 ports on generic windows PCs and some computers just don't have reliable enough USB2 (hardware or drivers) to restore the phone.

Downloaded the 3.1.3 firmware. Still no use. Itunes give the same error. How can i get the device to pawned dfu mode other than ireb? I tried redsnow 0.9.6 rc16 but it doesn't recognize the 3.1.3 firmware

    Which same error 1601?

There is a file you can try to delete - it has a name like x12220000_4_Recovery.ipsw or x12220000_5_Recovery.ipsw - it's location can vary depending on your windows version.

Delete this file and make sure that the user you are restoring with has full rights to the directory that this file was located in.

It could really be a hardware error you know. The IPSWs you are trying to restore are called iPhone1,2 at the beginning of the name not iPhone 1,1 or iPhone2,1 ??
