[iPhone 3G] SIM ejector tool
Have you seen on the 3G iPhone page on the Apple Shop that there will be a SIM ejector tool in the box. Now, why would anyone who's on a contract want to take out his SIM card? Could this be an indication that we will be able to buy the phone without contract?

i honestly dont understand why everyone is thinking that you are forced to sign up for the contract as soon as you buy the phone.
No. You Dont. on apples page they state that the AT&T service is sold separately.

I was thinking the exact same thing before. Let's hope Apple have seen the error of their ways and decide to sell it unlocked... even if it's slightly dearer

Well, previously anybody visiting the same page would be in no doubt that you could only use the phone with an official providers' contract. On the UK page, the reference to O2 are kept to a bare minimum. I haven't spotted anything on it that would make an iPhone newbie believe that in order to use the phone I need to get on an O2 contract.

My theory is that the ejector tool is basically there so that legit iPhone contract customers can upgrade in store and just swap sims. I could be wrong quite easily, but I think that this is the plan. No dock in the box is a bit lame I guess, but hey I have one already.
Peace,
Dok

hey man... you gotta remember they did cut down half(!) the price...
you can't sell a better phone for less without having to drop out a few things...
and after unlocking many iphones in israel i have to say that the vast majority of iphone users here don't really care for the dock...
btw... i just noticed that they require a 2 year minimum contract with AT&T in the us... was it like this before as well? at the start you could've picked out your own plan... oh well...

I don't care about the dock, and I fully understand why they're not putting one in the box. They can sell one to people who simply must have one for lots of money.
With the contract thing, yeah you had to get the 2 year contract, IF you bothered activating with at&t. It looks as though they will be doing what most other phone manufacturers do and sell the phone with a contract to subsidise the cost.
Peace,
Dok

i wasn't talking about unlocking or not...
first time around - if i remember correctly - it didn't matter which contract you had with AT&T.
now if you want a legit iphone running on at&t you have to go for at least 2 years... is it no so?

Nope, all original iPhone at&t contracts were 2 year ones, no matter what amount of talk time was included.
