Default iPhone 3G Recovery Mode error 40

    hey everyone

i'm trying to restore an iphone 3g with this guide
    http://www.spiritjb.org/2010/09/sn0w...fix-error.html

i made the custom 4.1 ipsw, i attempt to restore in itunes, the snowflake logo shows up on the iphone however returns with the error 40, custom ipsw or not it still gives me the error.

following the guide i got a message telling me i was in PWNED mode, whatever that is, and now everythign is telling me im in recovery mode and i can enter DFU.
    thanx in advance

So what is your question? How to enter DFU or what error 40 is?

    both,
i try to enter dfu mode, redsnow keeps telling me im in recovery mode,
and snowbreeze says no dfu detected.
the first time i did it in ireb, it told me i was in pwned state, i tried restoring (without holding shift) and still got the error code.
then i went in the second tab and clicked Auto-boot true and cant get back in pwned state

Did you see anything on the screen in DFU mode? If so, it wasn't DFU. If you enter DFU mode, your phone looks offline but iTunes will still detect it (tellings its in repair/recovery mode). Try it a few times with iTunes for a test, than retry redsn0w. You can't break DFU, so it must work.

hmmm, it took a couple attempts to get it to work in ireb until it said pwned state.
redsnow/ireb have different instructions for dfu.

redsnow sees device connected iPhone 3G (recovery)
but i cant get it into dfu, when i try dfu instructions with rednsow it keeps telling me i got into recovery instead.

redsnow says hold power for 3 secs, then home+power for 15 secs
ireb said hold both, then release power

    feeling a bit stumped here.

note: when i try to install older versions of ios like 3.x or 4.0 i get error 1611.

when i try to restore using custom ipsw from snowbreeze it loads up in recovery mode, shows the snowflake apple logo on the iphone, i hear usb connect sound a few times then i see either error 40 or 1611.

You might need to update to the latest available firmware for your device since Apple is no longer giving auth restores to these old versions. Are you using some sort of unlock? If not, just update and rebreak.
