FYI, price has drop to HK$9800 ~ US$1257 now. Still expensive but the good thing is that the iPhone is officially unlocked. I tried restoring using different sim card and it worked flawlessly.

but what about activation?? don't you need to reactivate from 3 so that you can use it with your other sims???

Any SIM is OK. No need of worrying about 3.

After restoring re-Activation is required, but it's totally SIM free.

    Default Thailand Prices and availability

No need to buy in Thailand if you live in America or any other country that officially sells the iPhone.

I live in Thailand, a country where the iPhone has not been officially released. Because of this, Thailand is not a cheap place to purchase an iPhone. Many people make the common mistake that since many items in Thailand are cheap, they can find an inexpensive iPhone. This is not true. Since the resellers must purchase the phones from America (or other sources) at retail prices, they charge a premium.

Thailand is a good place to buy an iPhone if you are passing through BKK while on vacation or business and the iPhone is NOT officially available in your country. Tens of thousands of people people have done just that. These customers are the type that prefer to see and handling the iPhone instead of buying online. They prefer not to risk getting ripped off online or having the phone held up in their country's customs department.

That said, do be careful when purchasing an iPhone in Thailand. There are many scammers who are out to make a dishonest buck (just like any where else in the world). For example, used phones are often resealed in their packaging and sold as new. Open any iPhone and look very closely at it before handing over your money.
More obvious scams are the iClones http://www.gizmag.com/more-imitation...-iclones/9309/

There are no 3G iPhones as of yesterday, July 19th. The resellers continue to say, "1-2 more weeks" Estimated prices for these phones have ranged from US $1,181 all the way up to $1,624. But nothing is solid and they won't really know until the phone has landed in their shop.

Used 8GB 1st gen go for about $450 depending on condition. Used 16GB for close to $600. There are very few new 1st gen iPhones left and these also go for a premium.
    8GB $742 and 16GB $890.

Prices just keep going up for new and used as stock dwindles. With the 1 phone per customer rule, I don't see a flood of 3Gs coming into Thailand any time soon to help reduce prices.
