[iPhone 3G][OS 3.0] SLOW !!!!
hey after i upgraded to OS 3.0, i preformed a jailbreak via redsn0w then unlocked it. for 2 weeks my phone was running fine. now it has become dead slow. if i am on an application and need to get to a home screen i have to wait 10/15 seconds for it go to home screen. also most of the time when i press the home button it doesn't respond the first time... i have to click it twice or thrice. i have a lot of apps and some from cydia and don;t want to restore/jailbreak/unlock all over again.
just wondering if its a hardware fault or software fault.
please advise
cheers

I have the same problem. I've done a fair bit of Google based research, and the general consensus seems to be that the normal cause of the slowness is actually if you've restored the phone from backup after the upgrade/jailbreak rather than use iTunes "Setup as new iPhone" option. The Dev Team also think this could cause unusually fast battery depletion, but I haven't noticed this.
Will be trying this myself, but does anyone know, before I start experimenting, if there is a way of saving text messages if I set it up as a new iPhone? Will iTunes restore the old messages or delete them?

Yes there is, it is as simple as backing up the appropriate files to your PC before you restore. Then after re-jailbreak and setup as new phone, use either SSH or diskaid to copy the backed up files over the ones that are setup as default.
The SMS database and files are in /var/mobile/Library/SMS/
I have done this with SMS and call history successfully.
I recommend you take note of the ownership and permissions on the files when you back them up initially. I found thatthe permissions can be set incorrectly when you copy the backed up files onto the iPhone.
You cannot as yet merge two SMS databases that are in the iPhone OS 3.x format, so make sure you restore the files straight away.

Yea I noticed that too. I think it is because the 3.0 firmware was designed more for the 3GS's chipset than the iPhone 3G... =/
