as compared to the almost $2000 (over 2 years) in the us the RS2000 ($50) is nothing
and also the guy said there is pay as u go and if thats true then it wont even be $50

any way all iv said in this thread is what a customer care guy at vodafone told me at the vodafone store

a contract in the US is For two years ours is only for a month and there is no cancellation fee

lol, Well u can't compare iPhone in US(199$) for the other in some country. Most of AT&T customers are almost satisfied with the service and price. In my view iPhone 3G and iPhone r both the same, they add upto the same price and iPhone 3G with 3G and GPS is really worth for 40 bucks.

N u can't compare the $$$ with rs. I saw the other day in news that Airtel won't give the iPhone for subsidiary price. It may cost u 21k AFAIK.

    1. Its said to be sold for "$199" WORLDWIDE
    2. Vodafone Store staff are utter idiots, they pickup a person from the streets and make them sit in the store.
    3. @lordofdaflies: If you said its Rs. 21,000 without the contract, then what is the price with the contract ?

there is no contract at all
if u get a postpaid or prepaid connection even for a month it will cost like Rs300 not even $10

and its only 199 if u upgrade ur phone

    read this
AT&T has announced the pricing and plans for the upcoming Apple 3G iPhone, according to Engadget.

iPhone 3G will be available for $199 (8GB) and $299 (16GB) for iPhone customers who purchased an iPhone prior to 7/11, customers activating a new line with AT&T and current AT&T customers who are eligible for an upgrade

Existing AT&T customers who are not currently eligible for an upgrade discount can purchase iPhone 3G for $399 for the 8GB model or $499 for the 16GB model. Both options require a new two-year service agreement.

A no-commitment version of the iPhone will be available for $599 and $699; however, this version may not be available on July 11th launch.

Engadget has organized and posted the iPhone plan details as shown below!
MacBook Pro OS X SNOW Leopard
    iPhone 4 16GB iOS 4.2
    iPad WiFi 64GB iOS 4.2
    BlackBerry Curve 3G (9300)

i agree.... they shuld sell it for US$199 and US$299....
wht a greedy pplr are these indians selling it so expensive....

i have been waiting so long and expecting i can get iphone for 199 but see wht they have done....i really hate the price they sell.

India they announced that the phones will be sold at 8GB for Rs3100(US$775) and 16GB for Rs36000(US$900) and that the phone will be locked to the career for 4 year.

i wonder why the price is extremely high??????since the CEO of the apple said the price will be same around the world.

if the price is so high and they sell it without contract then why they lock the phone to their career for 4 years?????

The price is so high because the Telecom rates in india are very low.

Vodafone/Airtel have nothing to gain by subsidizing the prices and selling it to more people.

AT&T pays 575$/675$ to apple per iPhone 8/16GB (meaning AT&T subsidizes it by 375$, because they can gain it back by leeching the customers when it comes to plans)

Vodafone/Airtel are definately earning some money per handset, but they arent milking money.

    Also, the Phones are LOCKED.

But yes, there is NO CONTRACT, period.

I had quite a long chat with the manager of one of the flagship vodafone stores.

Ive posted some more info here.

Comparing it to the prices of phones sold in europe, these prices are spot on. 31000 / 36100 (715$ / 830$). But ofcourse, youd rather buy a 2G iPhone, since we dont even have 3G in India.
Its definately not worth the money.

Just read this on the prev link:

    # Q: What is tethering?
    # Every iPhone 3G needs “tethering” before one can start using the handset. The handset is connected to PC through
    # USB and connects to iTunes. The PC needs to be connected through internet. The process takes around 3-5
    # minutes depending upon the internet connectivity of the PC.

    Is this true???
