Default [iPhone 3G] [issue] Random "No SIM inserted" notices (FIDO, Canada)

Got a 16 Gig yesterday. Came home and plugged it in to sync all the stuff from my 1gen phone. I ran iTunes 7.5 at the time and it mumbled something about the phone needing the 7.7 version. I then looked at my phone screen and it said that there was no SIM inserted. Turned the phone off and back on, problem gone. Started installing 7.7 and while it was downloading the phone was not connected to the computer anymore, guess what same message "NO SIM INSERTED". This time I just turned on airplane mode for a second and then the problem was gone. Weird no? All of this is on the Fido network in Canada.

Should I return this phone before it starts acting up on me more? Also I get random times where I have no EDGE or 3G connection even though the 3G icon is on.

I'm thinking of restoring it to get the latest build but will that help?

Well for your NO SIM INSERTED error. Try to go at a fido store to switch your sim card with a new one. It may be damaged if sometime you are switching phone.

edit: befor doing that^^, you can try to clean your sim with rubbing alcool. You can also take a pencil eraser to clean it...

For your edge/3g not working, after restored all the thing from my first iphone, I had to reset the network setting to make it work again. To do it, Setting, General, Reset (well for me it's in french so it's réinitialisation) (its the last one at the bottom), and then reset network setting.

Try that before return the phone cuz they don't give you an exchange, they send it for repair and it could take some time...

Ive also resset all the setting on the phone after that just to be shure that I am not cariing old setting for old iphone

This happened to me too, had to restore in iTunes to get rid of the no SIM error. Restarting the phone didn't do anything.
