Default [iPhone 3G] If I was to buy a iPhone from 02 Store...what frimware will it have?

    Hi Guys,

After reading some AWESOME news on iClarified website, I was thinking of now taking the plunge and buying a 3G iPhone. I was wondering if anyone knew what version of firmware it may have if I was to go into an o2 store and buy one today. Is there a quick way of finding out before purchasing (something on the box that will indicate this?)

Also, I take it WHEN the unlock is released, I can use my three (3) sim card in the phone.

    Cheers for any input

    Jimmy

Go into the store and go onto the demo phones and check the modem firmware in settings, these usually reflect the phones that are sold.
Usually phones purchased will have the latest firmware unless its old stock.

This is something I wanted to know too. I was in an O2 store tonight. The demo phones had 2.0 on them. I asked one of the guys if he knew... probs trying to get a sale he said they dont come with any particular version on stating the firmware is written when you activate it through itunes. I didn't believe him.

I too would like to know if there is a way of finding out what firmware and baseband beforehand??? Or is ebay best option?

I decided to start asking peeps on eBay, everyone said they had 2.2..then LUCKILY, I got one from a girl that had 2.1 firmware on it *RESULT*.

I did try ringing o2 up, but as soon as I said "jailbreak", I turned into public enemy number 1 and o2 became real unhelpful.

If you look on the box for the serial number. The first two are the factory ID, and the next three are date info.

Example: xx838xxxxxx - the 8 means 2008, and the 38 is what week of 2008 that it was made in.
Knowing the week will give you an idea of the frimware version

So is it safe to assume any number less than or equal to 46 as per your example below means that the phone should have version 2.1 or below and the appropriate baseband as the 2.2 firmware was released on 21st Nov??

    Thats fantastic info..

Yes that's the idea, but its not an exact science its only a guide

I think Week 8(28) was the 3G Release date (2.0 OTB)

My 3G is week 8(38) & had 2.1 firmware OTB.

Default If I buy new iPhone 3G today at apple, will it have 2.2 with NEW baseband on it?

I need to take back my current 3G beacuse I'm having wifi problems and i want to swap out with a working phone.

However, I dont want the new 3G to come with 2.2 with the updated BASEBAND on it because I want to be able to unlock my 3G.

Will the apple store automatically update my phone to 2.2 or what?

    thanks for your help guys!

    Hi

I don't think you will be able to know what they will do when you return the phone 4 testing but this thread is talking about
    OTB firmware.
