Default [iPhone 3G] How will a restore work?

If I will have to restore a 3G iPhone or put on a new firmware, do we know how activation would work, considering that home activation isn't possible and all...?

Here's what we are looking at based on the Beta 8 firmware.

If you restore the iPhone, you must reactivate the phone.
iTunes 7.7 (and iTunes 7.6.3b4) has the ability to activate your phone for you.

However, you can only activate if you have a "valid" sim card installed.

If Apple ever changes this, you can always use the StoreActivationMode from iTunes 7.7 or iTunes 7.6.3b4 to get yourself up and running as if you just walked strait out of the store with a brand new iPhones.

So that doesn't sound too different from what "valid" SIM card owners do right now then...

In the big scheme of things, it really is not that different.

The biggest thing of note is that using the new system, you are still able to restore your iPhone's without needing to take them into the Apple, AT&T or other world-wide stores to get back up and running.

You just need to make sure at this point you are using a valid sim.

By the way, the widescreen keyboard on the Beta 8 firmware is shorter than the previos ones... Whole lot nicer to use!
