Is it under warranty (purchased less than 1 year ago or you bought Applecare before the 1 year warranty ran out?)

Have you tried a DFU restore? I think you did a recovery mode restore last time (hold the home button down after power on got connect to iTunes screen and then restored via iTunes)

    Find your firmware, model number....

If the model number begins with MC********

Then at present no tool is available for jailbreak

If your basband reads 0.5.12 etc...

    Then you have no unlock...

Just wait for firmware 4.0 comes out then I'm sure they will have a tool out or that.....

Hope this helps, if not I'll try to work something out

This is not true for iPhones. You can always jailbreak a 3G iPhone (unlock is not always possible)

The MC model number is only an issue for iPod touches.

All this is completely unrelated to the original problem as described in this thread. They are not asking for a jailbreak or unlock.

Try a restore with DFU mode http://www.hackint0sh.org/f137/54082.htm

Post the iPhone restore log from a restore where it freezes on pastebin.com and then link to that here in this thread.

Have you tried a different computer? Or a different USB cable?

There seems to be some difficultly with the USB level - oddly not during the restore but afterwards.

If you connect via iRecovery (while the phone is in recovery mode) what does it say?
