Default [iPhone 3G] Does anyone have a working method to buy one without contract ANYWHERE?

Like a lot of users I dont want to pay Apple's costly monthly price plans but I have no problem whatsoever paying a premium to buy the handset contract free.

Has anybody come up with a workable solution to buy a 3G iPhone contract-free anywhere? I live in Ireland but I am in the UK regularly. I have heard you can buy them contract-free in Switzerland however I doubt they would ship outside the country. Their online store appears to offline just now so I cant confirm...

    Has anyone been successful yet?

They iPhones in Switzerland have to be bought in the country, or possibly shipped to a swiss address. Same in Italy, you can buy it online, but you need an italian address.

Havent Tested it (Going to) But it should work

    For the US:

Go to AT&T and buy the iPhone with a 2 year contract. At time of purchase you'll be paying $200 or $300 depending on phone, $36 activation and a minimum $70 for the first month. the contract says if the contract is cancelled with in the first 30 days you must return the phone, so if u cancel the contact after the first 30 days, you pay the ETF of $175 and keep the phone. Aprox Price for 8gb is $500 and for 16gb its $600. Thats $100 cheaper than the non-contract Iphone coming out later in the year.

    Info From Source:

    Code:
    In the future, AT&T will offer a no-contract-required option for $599 (8GB) or $699 (16GB).

i spoke with a customer service guy in Swisscom this morning.

    he said...
    1. there are no iPhones available anywhere in Swisscom right now (but couldnt speak for Orange)
    2. the CH619 price is in fact a contract price but without subscription... confused?
    3. the price he has heard in his company is CH899 for a contract-free iPhone however this price is not available on their website but WAS available on the www.Orange.ch website.

It appears to me that only a Swiss resident can order a phone online, I got stuck at the postcode part when trying to order, a futile project as they're out of stock anyway...

The US AT&T option of buying with contract then cancelling 30 days later looks to be the only way right now that I can see...

    Let the Quest continue!!!
