Iphone 3g converted into ipod touch...read on to understand.
hi, i am new here and have been looking around the forums but there doesnt seem to be anything relating directly to what i'm after..
i bought an iphone 3g couple of days ago, no questions asked only to realise it was barred. i was thinking of just using it as an ipod touch as it has a camera which obviously my ipod touch doesnt have. few questions about this..
1. will the gps still work?
2. does anyone have a springboard theme to suggest...i like the ones that look almost like a desktop of a computer rather than a grid of icons (i saw one with a large clock in the centre of the screen and a stacked popup menu at the bottom centre of the screen but this was in another forum and couldnt see what it was called)
3. does anyone else have trouble getting their headphones to stay plugged in? they seem to pop out and have to really push quite hard to get the last 0.5 to 1 mm of the headphone jack in. never had this with the touch.
4. can i get rid of the signal bars in the top left and the network provider name because as it is barred this just says no network all the time which looks untidy.
cant think of anymore questions at the moment and i'm new to all this so if its in the wrong section please tell me or if i can be clearer in explaining etc.
thanks a lot, chris.
As you told that you bought a iPhone 3G a couple of days ago I should really consider you to look if this is a real iPhone 3G!
You can do that by go to “Settings” and then “General” and then goto “About”, If the Carrier or IMEI information is missing then it might be a iPod Touch. To be absolutely sure you can backup your data within iTunes and then Restore to a clean firmware by pressing Restore in iTunes.
Hope that helps you.
1.I m guessing it will(i have no 3g thought to be 100% sure)
2.U ll have to jailbreak it first and then install themes. There's tons of these in cydia with screenshots,so u ll just need some of your time to check em and install em.
3.No similar prob for me.
4.No idea about this one.
Yeh definately a 3g. already got a 16 gb touch so can see difference straight away (mostly the weight and size)

Thanks for ur reply, i forgot to say the headphones arent apple ones they're sennheiser cx400. brilliant headphones but suppose theyre the problem not the phone jack.

by the way this sounds stupid but i found out why the headphones werent going in....quite a lot of fluff in the phone jack. paperclip got it out and all fine now. just incase anyone else has this problem try a paperclip!!!
I found a really great theme for the iphone. If you like deskstop styled iphones you will like vista maximus for springboard.
