Hi all,

I just got a broken iPhone 3G that a friend gave me. I don't know much about it, I just know she dropped and now screen is white with a few blue stripes on the left side.

When I plug into USB it blinks, which seems to me it is charging.

My questions:

1- Is there a software I could use to collect some information about it? I've fixed some iPhones in the past but I'm a bit rusty so I cannot remember the famous softwares.

2- Is the sympton of the screen fixable? I mean, as she dropped something might be lose or it's a signal that screen is definitely bad...

Update: After installing iTunes 9.0.0.70 and waiting for about 3~5 minutes the iPhone woke up and I discovered it has firmware 4.2, because iTunes said to install at least iTunes 10.1. Even though the LCD is definitely broken, I can "Slide to unlock", does this mean my digitizer is working properly? I could hear a few click sounds sometimes while touching the LCD, but it's hard because I don't know where I suppose to touch after unlocking. I now wonder what else I can test before spend 50 bucks to buy a new LCD..
