    Default iphone 3g bricked

Hey all, hope you guys can give me a few ideas here....
I was in the process of updating a iphone 3g (jailbroken and unlocked on 3.1) that i recently bought used, and i bricked it somehow. I tried to reset the phone as the owner did not clean it out, and i pressed the reset on the phone, hoping that it would just erase everything and start over. It got stuck on the pinapple screen with the swirling circle i then tried the following:
-plugged it into my computer and tried to upgrade to 3.1.2, i think that worked (i got a 50 smthing error). I then tried to restart the phone (kick it out of dfu/recovery mode)..didnt work.
-I tried using irecovery to boot it out of recovery
-Tinyumbrella didnt work in kicking it out of recovery
-I tried updating to the newest firmware, i dont know if it worked, itunes is now giving me a 1611 error.

i am all out of ideas, please help me! i dont really know apple products...this is my first iphone....any tips appreciated

    (sorry for long first post)

edit: i am on windows xp

Sounds like you used "erase all content and settings" - that is generally a bad idea because you have to restore the operating system afterwards.

Publish your restore log files. Without these we can't help you. The procedure is explained in this thread.
