    Question iPhone 3g almost dead - won't restore w/ 1600 error

    Okay, I've been reading on here a bit about the 1600/1601 errors and haven't found a solution that works for me. I will try to give as much detail about what has happened so far, but if I'm missing something, let me know.

    I purchased a well worn 3g 8gb phone with OS 2.X? and jailbroke/unlocked it, tested it and it was working fine on 4.0.2 using the sn0wbreeze/ultrasnow666 JB/unlock. I replaced the back casing/housing and glass/midframe and when I tried to power it on, nothing was happening. I plugged it into a wall outlet and could only get the apple logo for exactly 8 seconds when the power/wake button was pressed and then the screen goes black. Nothing noticeable happens when it's unplugged and a power up is attempted (maybe just some faint squigly lines)... I am able to put the phone in DFU mode and START a restore, but then iTunes 9.2.1 will give me the 1601 error when I try to restore to the latest firmware. If I put Sauriks URL in my HOSTS file, I can start the restore, but it will still get stuck on "waiting for restore" and time out with a 1600 error. I'm 99% sure I "made my life easier" on Cydia to save my SSH. I've tried just about everything. I'm open to any advice to get this phone working again.

    # iTunes version 9.2.1
    # iPhone OS version (before restore/update) 2.X/4.1.2
    # Platform Windows XP home (also tried on XP Pro)
    # FULL iTunes restore Log:

    It's a USB or internal communications problem.

    Try:

    restoring on a different computer
    using a different USB port
    using a different 30 pin connector cable
    Removing (completely) and reinstalling iTunes

    Did you replace the dock connector socket in the iPhone

    Ok man i understand what your going through. Is your iPhone in recovery mode or dfu?
    Here is the picture for recovery mode: http://www.iphoneheat.com/wp-content...ery-mode-2.jpg.
    And dfu mode is black if it is recovery then press the home and power button for has long as you see the apple logo. That might be the case if not. Put your iPhone into dfu mode, you can do this by looking it up on youtube. After iPhone set in dfu mode try and restore it. If none of these steps work send me a via emial

    Hope it works

    Also try sending iBSS via iRecovery manually - then attempting the restore from iTunes. That can sometimes help when things are unstable.

    Where can I get iRecovery from? I've googled it and seen a couple different versions that look like they do different things. I'm on Windows XP pro on my home machine and home on my laptop. Both computers give me varying results depending on what I'm doing. Also, where would I get the iBSS file from? Thanks for the replies. I'm not getting email updates on this thread... or I would have replied sooner. )
