[iPhone 3G] [2.0.1] [PAYG] UK O2 PAYG trick broken in 2.0.1
I've been running a 3G iPhone, without contract, on an O2 PAYG SIM with their £7.50 a month 'bolt-on' for iPhones that gives unlimited (fair use, as usual) data via 3G, Edge, GPRS and Wifi (over the Cloud network).
Since the SIM cost me £10 and I'm paying £7.50 a month, it's a good stopgap whilst I wait for a software unlock so I can get back onto Vodafone (it also means I'm carrying both my v1 iPhone and my iP3g around at the same time...)
Now I haven't told too many people about the ability to run PAYG O2 SIMs in 3G iPhones, since the O2 'special deal' for unlimited data on PAYG is 'only for iPhones' - i.e. v1 iPhones - since there's only so much data you can download through GPRS. However it's easy enough to get it working on 3G iPhones without contract as well...
However 2.0.1 makes the PAYG O2 SIMs invalid. I've made a custom ipsw with PwnageTool and 2.0.1, and the SIM is unrecognised after that.
Fortunately you can restore with your PwnageTool'd 2.0 ipsw via iTunes and the SIM comes back to life.
Just a heads-up for anyone confused as to why it's stopped working... perhaps O2 have caught on to it but the iP3g with 2.0 software doesn't distinguish between contract and PAYG SIMs.

The bundle for £7.50 for unlimited data is availble on all o2 contracts and PAYG.
In fact the best deal atm is Simplicity for £20 a month. Gets you 600 mins, 1000 texts and unlimited data.

OK will try again - may have been some issue with the activation flag
